How to block YouTube channels on Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge and YouTube both lack a block button for channels. In Edge, an extension adds one: install FeedCut from Edge Add-ons, press Block channel on any video, and the channel disappears from Home, search, Up next and the comments. Edge also runs Chrome Web Store extensions, so either store works.

This is how it works in Edge: press Block channel on a search result, then open the other tabs.

Short answer

Install FeedCut from Edge Add-ons, pin it, and press Block channel. Then switch on Allow in InPrivate if you use private windows. That’s the whole setup.

Install FeedCut in Edge

  1. Open FeedCut on Edge Add-ons

Click Get, review the permissions, then Add extension. FeedCut asks for storage for your lists and access to youtube.com, nothing else.

  2. Pin it next to the address bar

Click the Extensions icon, the puzzle piece, and choose to show FeedCut in the toolbar.

  3. Open YouTube

Shorts are already hidden, and every video has a Block channel button.

Prefer the Chrome Web Store? Microsoft’s help page confirms that extensions made for Chrome work in Edge. The first time, Edge asks you to Allow extensions from other stores; say yes, then add FeedCut as usual.

Block a channel

Hover a video on Home, in search or in Up next and press Block channel on the thumbnail. On a channel page the button sits beside the channel name, and each comment has one too. The ⋮ menu on any video offers the same thing. The channel leaves every page at once, and the panel keeps the list, with Unblock next to each name.

YouTube’s own “Don’t recommend channel” only tunes recommendations, so the channel still shows up the moment you search. FeedCut removes blocked channels from YouTube’s search results too, so a search for a recipe doesn’t bring back the creator you blocked. More on that in blocking channels from search results.

Edge settings worth a look

  • InPrivate windows. Edge turns extensions off in InPrivate until you allow it. Open edge://extensions, choose Details under FeedCut and switch on Allow in InPrivate.
  • Profiles. Edge keeps work and personal profiles separate, each with its own extensions. Install FeedCut in each profile where you watch YouTube.
  • Sync. With extensions included in Edge sync, FeedCut and its lists follow you to other computers on the same profile.
  • Work computers. If your PC is managed by an employer, IT can restrict which extensions you install. If Edge refuses, that’s why.

If you’re setting it up for a kid

Set a PIN in FeedCut’s settings so blocks can’t be undone, and turn on the “For kids” list. If your child has their own Microsoft account in your family group, Microsoft Family Safety can filter websites in Edge as well. It works at the level of whole sites, so it pairs with FeedCut rather than replacing it. Our guide to blocking YouTube on Edge covers Family Safety.

Questions

Should I install from Edge Add-ons or the Chrome Web Store?

Either works, because Edge runs Chrome extensions. Edge Add-ons is Microsoft’s own store and needs no extra setting. The Chrome Web Store needs “Allow extensions from other stores” switched on, and turning that off later removes everything installed from there.

Do my blocked channels sync to my other PCs?

If Edge sync includes extensions, Edge installs FeedCut on your other computers signed in to the same profile and carries the lists along. FeedCut has no server of its own; the sync is Microsoft’s.

Does it work in Edge on my phone?

No. FeedCut is for Edge on Windows, Mac and Linux. On a phone, see what the YouTube app allows.

Can I block a channel without an extension?

Not in Edge. YouTube’s “Don’t recommend channel” keeps a channel off Home and Up next but not out of search, and Edge’s own site blocking takes all of YouTube with it.
