The best YouTube blocker extensions in 2026

They fall into two camps. Feed hiders like Unhook remove Home, Shorts and recommendations, but can’t block a channel. Channel blockers like BlockTube hide creators and words, and leave the feed alone. Here’s what each one does, what it costs and how well it’s kept up, checked against the store listings in November 2026.

Coming soon to Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera · Free · No account

Quick picks
  • Block channels and words without fiddly settings: FeedCut (ours).
  • Hide the feeds and nothing else: Unhook.
  • Regex, channel IDs and filters by length: BlockTube.
  • Control over every corner of the page: UnTrap or RYS.
  • Shorts only: ShortsBlocker.

How we compared them

For each extension we read its store listing, website and recent reviews, and checked five things: what it can hide or block, where on YouTube that applies (Home, search, Up next, comments, Shorts), what’s free, which browsers it supports, and when it was last updated. Numbers come from the listings as of November 5, 2026.

We make FeedCut, so weigh our view accordingly. It’s listed first, and every entry says plainly where the others do more.

1FeedCut

  • Free
  • Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera
  • Coming soon

FeedCut puts a Block button on YouTube itself: on video cards, channel pages, comments and in the ⋮ menu. A blocked channel disappears from Home, search, Up next and the comments at once. Words work the same way, matched in titles, channel names and comment text, with a whole-word option for short ones. Switches hide Shorts, the Home feed, Up next and comments. Everything is free, including a PIN lock and imports from BlockTube and Channel Blocker.

It filters the data YouTube sends to the page rather than hiding boxes after they appear, so blocked videos don’t flash in and out. You can try it in the live demo.

Best for
Anyone who wants specific channels and topics gone from all of YouTube, set up in a minute.
Watch out
It’s new, so there’s no track record yet. No regex, and no switches for small interface bits like the notification bell.

2Unhook

  • Free
  • 1M+ users
  • 4.9 ★
  • Chrome, Firefox, Edge

The most popular extension in the category, and for good reason. About two dozen switches hide the Home feed, the sidebar with recommendations, Shorts, comments, end screens and smaller pieces like live chat and playlists. Turn on a few and YouTube becomes a search box.

Best for
Hiding YouTube’s feeds while leaving everything else alone.
Watch out
It can’t block a channel or a keyword. Search results stay exactly as YouTube serves them.

3BlockTube

  • Free, open source
  • 100K+ users
  • 3.9 ★
  • Chrome, Firefox

The most powerful filter here. BlockTube blocks by video title, channel name, channel ID, video ID, regular expression and video length, and filters comments by author or text. It adds Block Channel and Block Video to YouTube’s ⋮ menu, has a password for its settings, and it filters YouTube’s data before the page is drawn. The code is on GitHub.

Best for
People comfortable with regex and channel IDs who want precise rules.
Watch out
The settings page asks for patterns and IDs rather than offering buttons. The GitHub project has more than 480 open issues, and the last store update was in February 2026.

4UnTrap for YouTube

  • Free + Pro
  • Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari

UnTrap advertises over 250 controls. It hides Shorts, comments, related videos and dozens of interface elements, blurs or removes thumbnails, filters videos and comments by keywords, channel IDs and regex, and adds schedules, a password and AI video summaries. It also works on the mobile website.

Best for
People who want to tune every corner of YouTube and don’t mind a large settings page.
Watch out
The number of options takes time to learn, and some features sit in the paid Pro plan.

5Remove YouTube Suggestions (RYS)

  • Free + Premium
  • 4.0 ★
  • Chrome, Firefox

A long, well-organized page of switches: about 90 free options across the Home page, the video page, search, Shorts and comments. Standouts include redirecting Shorts to the normal player, hiding the Home feed except for its first row, and a lock that makes you wait or type a password before changing settings. Premium, at $3 a month or $24 a year, adds more than 80 further options. We compare it with FeedCut on the RYS alternative page.

Best for
Detailed control over what YouTube shows, with a lock against your own impulses.
Watch out
It doesn’t block channels or keywords.

6ShortsBlocker

  • Free + Premium
  • 100K+ users
  • 4.2 ★
  • Chrome

One job, done thoroughly: Shorts disappear from Home, search, Subscriptions and the other tabs where YouTube slips them in. Premium adds a daily limit, a schedule, an allowlist of channels whose Shorts you still want, and usage statistics. There’s also a yearly license for schools and businesses.

Best for
Removing Shorts and nothing else.
Watch out
Channels, keywords, the Home feed and comments are out of scope.

7Channel Blocker

  • Free, open source
  • 100K+ users
  • 2.7 ★
  • Chrome

Channel Blocker made blocking a one-click job: a button on videos, channels and commenters, plus regular expressions for advanced rules. It was rebuilt as an open-source Manifest V3 extension.

Best for
Existing users whose lists still work for them.
Watch out
The last update in the Chrome Web Store was in August 2024. Tools that rely on YouTube’s page layout need regular updates to keep up.

“—” means the listing doesn’t say.

Which one should you pick?

If one or two channels ruin YouTube for you, you need a blocker, not a hider. Hiding the feed doesn’t help when the same creators fill your search results. FeedCut or BlockTube, depending on whether you prefer buttons or rules.

If the feed itself is the problem, and you open YouTube for one video and leave an hour later, Unhook is a simple, proven answer. RYS does the same with more detail and a lock.

If it’s the Shorts, any of FeedCut, Unhook, RYS or ShortsBlocker will remove them; our Shorts blocker comparison goes into the differences. Our Shorts to normal video page converts single links without installing anything.

If a kid uses the computer, pick something with a lock and channel blocking, and read our guide to blocking channels for kids for the gaps every extension leaves.

Questions

Which YouTube blocker blocks channels and hides Shorts?

FeedCut and UnTrap do both. Unhook and ShortsBlocker hide Shorts but can’t block a channel; BlockTube and Channel Blocker block channels but aren’t built around hiding Shorts.

Are YouTube blocker extensions safe?

Check the permissions before you install. A YouTube-only tool needs access to youtube.com and to its own storage. Be wary of one that asks to read and change your data on all websites without a clear reason.

Do any of them work in the YouTube app?

No. Extensions run in desktop browsers. A few reach the mobile website: UnTrap supports it, and BlockTube runs in Firefox for Android. None of them change the YouTube apps for phones and TVs.

Why do YouTube blockers stop working?

YouTube changes its pages often. Tools that find videos by the page layout need an update after each redesign. Tools that filter the data YouTube sends, as BlockTube and FeedCut do, depend less on the layout, though no blocker is immune to change.
