How to block YouTube channels

A regular YouTube account has no button that blocks a channel. “Don’t recommend channel” only shows it less often on Home. FeedCut, a free browser extension, adds a real Block button: one press hides the channel from Home, search, Up next and comments.

What YouTube offers built-in

People often mix up three YouTube options. None of them removes a channel from everything you see.

  • Don’t recommend channel. It sits in the three-dot menu on a video on Home or in Up next. It tells YouTube you are not into the channel, so YouTube shows it less in recommendations. It is feedback, not a block: the channel’s videos can still turn up in search, in Subscriptions if you follow it, and elsewhere. There is no list of these channels, and you can’t undo one: Google My Activity only lets you delete all of this feedback at once.
  • Not interested. The same menu has it for a single video. You may see fewer similar videos. The channel stays.
  • Block channel for kids. Parents who supervise a child’s Google account can block channels for that child. A regular account doesn’t have it.

That’s why “how do I block a YouTube channel” is such a common question: on a normal account, the answer is that you can’t, not with YouTube’s own tools.

How to block a channel with FeedCut

  1. Install FeedCut

Add it from the Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons, Firefox Add-ons or Opera add-ons. It needs no account and starts working right away.

  2. Press Block channel

Open youtube.com and hover over any video — on Home, in search or in Up next. A Block channel button appears in the corner. Channel pages and comments have it too.

  3. The channel is gone everywhere

Its videos, Shorts, channel card and comments disappear from every page at once and stay hidden as you browse. Changed your mind? Press Undo, or Unblock in the FeedCut panel.

Switching from BlockTube or Channel Blocker

You don’t have to rebuild your list. Export it from the old extension’s settings, then open FeedCut’s settings, choose Import and pick the file. FeedCut reads BlockTube and Channel Blocker lists, so every channel and word comes across — and now they are hidden in comments and search too.

Remove the old extension afterwards. Two blockers on one page get in each other’s way.

Limits

  • Desktop browsers only. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS, plus Brave and other Chromium browsers. Not the YouTube apps for phones and TVs, and not YouTube Kids. For those, see phones, TVs and YouTube Kids.
  • No limit on channels. Free blocks as many as you need.
  • Your list lives in this browser. Export it any time. Your browser’s own sync carries it to your other computers.

Questions

Can you block a YouTube channel?

Not with a regular account’s own settings: there is no block button, only “Don’t recommend channel”, which shows the channel less often on Home. Parents of a supervised child account can block channels for that child. On a computer, a browser extension like FeedCut can hide a channel everywhere on youtube.com.

How do I stop a channel from showing up in search?

YouTube has no setting for this. With FeedCut, block the channel once and its videos and its channel card no longer appear in search results.

Will the channel know I blocked it?

No. FeedCut only hides things on your screen. Nothing is sent to YouTube or to the channel owner.

How do I unblock a channel?

Right after blocking, press Undo. Later, open the FeedCut panel, find the channel in Blocked channels and press Unblock. If you set a PIN, FeedCut asks for it first.

Can I block channels for my kids?

Yes. Block the channels, switch on the “For kids” list, and set a PIN so the blocks stay. On a supervised Google account you can also use YouTube’s own “Block channel for kids”.
