On a computer, YouTube has no switch that turns Shorts off. Its options only show you fewer of them, and its Shorts feed limit works only in the phone app. FeedCut removes Shorts from Home, search and Subscriptions, hides the Shorts tab, and opens any /shorts link in the normal player. It’s on from the moment you install.
Coming soon to Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera · Free · No account
Turn on Hide Shorts in the panel. The shelf disappears from Home and from search.

So on a laptop or desktop there is no way to turn Shorts off with YouTube’s own settings.
From the Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons, Firefox Add-ons or Opera add-ons. Hide Shorts is on from the start, so this is the only step. Browser notes: Chrome, Edge.
No shelves on Home, no Shorts in search or Subscriptions, no Shorts tab in the sidebar.
Open the FeedCut panel and turn off Hide Shorts. Set a PIN if you’d rather not be able to do that on a weak evening.
| Place on YouTube | With Hide Shorts on |
|---|---|
| Shorts shelf on Home | Hidden |
| Shorts in search results | Hidden |
| Shorts in Subscriptions | Hidden |
| Shorts tab in the sidebar | Hidden |
| Shorts tab on channel pages | Hidden |
| A youtube.com/shorts/… link | Opens in the normal player, without the swipe feed |
A limit asks for willpower every evening: the timer runs out, and you decide again whether to keep going. Switching Shorts off moves that decision to one calm moment. Long videos stay, search stays, your subscriptions stay — only the endless swipe goes.
If you want a Short now and then, pause FeedCut for 10 minutes. It switches itself back on, so a quick look doesn’t turn into an evening.
Not with YouTube’s own settings. On a computer its options only show you fewer Shorts. The Shorts feed limit lives in the phone app, and you can dismiss it when it appears. FeedCut turns Shorts off on youtube.com until you switch them back on.
Yes. Hide Shorts removes all of them, including the ones in Subscriptions and on channel pages.
It opens in YouTube’s normal video player. You watch that one video and there is no swipe to the next one.
FeedCut doesn’t work there, but the app has its own setting: You, then Settings, then Time management, then Shorts feed limit, which can be set to zero. It’s a reminder you can dismiss. For a supervised kid, a limit set by a parent in Family Center can’t be.
Block channels, words and Shorts everywhere on YouTube. Free, no account, nothing leaves your browser.
