The best YouTube Shorts blocker extensions in 2026
All five extensions here remove the Shorts shelf from YouTube’s Home page. They differ in what else they catch: Shorts in search and Subscriptions, Shorts links that open the swipe player, a lock against switching it back on, and an allowlist for channels you still want. Details come from each store listing and website as of November 5, 2026.
Coming soon to Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera · Free · No account

- Shorts and the feeds off, nothing to configure: Unhook.
- Shorts only, with a schedule and allowlist: ShortsBlocker Premium.
- Shorts links into the normal player, with a lock: RYS.
- The mobile website too: UnTrap.
What we checked
A Shorts blocker has to do more than remove one shelf. We looked at five things: where Shorts disappear (Home, search, Subscriptions, channel pages), what happens to a /shorts/ link, whether settings can be locked, what’s free, and which browsers are supported. We make FeedCut, so it’s listed first, and each entry says plainly where the others do more.
1FeedCut
Hide Shorts is one switch and it’s on by default: the Home shelf, the Shorts tab, Shorts in search and Subscriptions, and the Shorts tab on channel pages all go. A /shorts/ link opens as a normal video with a seek bar and no swipe. The same panel blocks channels and words everywhere on YouTube and hides the Home feed, Up next and comments, with a free PIN lock. Try it in the live demo.
- Best for
- People who want Shorts gone and also have a few channels or topics to remove.
- Watch out
- It’s new, so there’s no track record yet. No schedule and no allowlist for Shorts from specific channels.
2Unhook
The most popular extension in the category. Shorts are one of about two dozen switches that also hide the Home feed, recommendations, comments and end screens. Turn on a handful and YouTube becomes a search box.
- Best for
- Removing Shorts and the feeds with no setup at all.
- Watch out
- No lock, so it’s easy to switch back on, and it can’t block a channel or a keyword.
3ShortsBlocker
Built for one job. Shorts disappear from Home, search, Subscriptions and the other tabs where YouTube adds them. Premium adds a daily limit, a schedule, an allowlist of channels whose Shorts you still want, and usage statistics, plus a yearly license for schools and businesses.
- Best for
- People who want Shorts handled in depth, including an allowlist.
- Watch out
- Chrome only, and the allowlist and schedule are paid.
4Remove YouTube Suggestions (RYS)
A long page of switches, about 90 in the free version, with Shorts covered among them. Its standout for Shorts is redirecting them to the normal player. A lock makes you wait or type a password before changing anything, and settings can follow a schedule. Premium costs $3 a month or $24 a year. We compare it with FeedCut on the RYS alternative page.
- Best for
- Self-control: Shorts off, links tamed, and a lock against your own impulses.
- Watch out
- The number of options takes a while to learn, and it doesn’t block channels.
5UnTrap for YouTube
UnTrap advertises more than 250 controls, Shorts among them, plus keyword and channel filters, schedules, a password and AI summaries. It also works on YouTube’s mobile website, and it’s the only one here with a Safari version.
- Best for
- Safari users, and anyone who also watches on the mobile website.
- Watch out
- A very large settings page, and some features are in the paid Pro plan.

“—” means the listing and website don’t say.
Without an extension
YouTube itself has one Shorts control: the Shorts feed limit in the phone app, which goes down to zero. At zero the Shorts shelf leaves Home, and opening a Short brings up a reminder you can dismiss. It doesn’t exist on the website, so on a computer one of the extensions above is the only way to switch Shorts off. For a single link, our Shorts to normal video tool opens it in the regular player with nothing to install.
Which one to pick
If Shorts are the whole problem and you want a deep, Shorts-only tool, ShortsBlocker. If you want the whole page quieter, Unhook. If you need a lock against yourself or a kid, FeedCut or RYS. If there are also channels or topics you never want to see, FeedCut or UnTrap, depending on whether you prefer a short panel or a long settings page.
Questions
Which Shorts blocker works on Edge?
FeedCut, Unhook and UnTrap list Edge. The others can still be installed in Edge from the Chrome Web Store, because Edge runs Chrome extensions once you allow other stores.
Can I hide Shorts but keep a few channels’ Shorts?
ShortsBlocker Premium has an allowlist for exactly that. With FeedCut, leave Hide Shorts off and block the channels whose Shorts you don’t want instead.
Is there a Shorts blocker for the YouTube app?
No extension reaches the app. The app’s own Shorts feed limit, set to zero, removes the Shorts shelf from Home; see Shorts on a phone.
Are these extensions safe?
Look at the permissions before installing. A Shorts blocker needs access to youtube.com and its own storage. Be wary of one that wants to read and change data on all websites.
