How to block a channel on YouTube Kids
In the YouTube Kids app, open a video from the channel, tap More at the top, then Block, and choose Block entire channel. The app asks for the on-screen numbers or your passcode. You can also block channels from your own phone or computer, signed in to YouTube with the parent account linked to your child. Either way, the block only holds while your child is signed in.
Coming soon to Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera · Free · No account
On your child’s device: More → Block → Block entire channel, then confirm as the parent. From your own device: open the channel on YouTube with your linked parent account and choose Block channel for kids. Blocks are tied to your child’s signed-in profile, so make sure they never watch signed out.
Block a channel in the YouTube Kids app
These steps follow YouTube’s help page. Sign in to the app first: if you try to block while signed out, YouTube Kids asks you to sign in.
Open a video from the channel
Any video will do. The block is for the whole channel, not this one upload.
Tap More at the top of the video
Then tap Block.
Choose Block entire channel
Pick Block this video only if you just want one video gone. Tap Block.
Confirm as the parent
Enter the numbers shown on screen, or your custom passcode if you’ve set one.
From the home screen there’s a shortcut for single videos: tap More next to a video and choose Block this video.
Block it from your own phone or computer
You don’t need your child’s tablet in hand. Sign in to regular YouTube with the parent account linked to your child, and you can block for them from anywhere. YouTube’s help page gives both routes:
| Where | Steps |
|---|---|
| Computer | Channel page → About → Report user → Block channel for kids → Continue → Block next to your child → Done |
| YouTube app | Channel page → More → Block channel for kids → Continue → Block next to your child → Done |
If you have more than one child, the dialog lists each of them, so you can block a channel for your six-year-old and leave it for your eleven-year-old.
Why a blocked channel can show up again
- Your child watched signed out. YouTube says that anything you blocked while signed in “will be available when you sign out.” A blocked channel isn’t a setting on the tablet; it belongs to your child’s profile. This is the usual answer when parents ask why a block only seems to work on one device.
- Someone re-uploaded the videos. In YouTube’s words, blocking a channel “only blocks content uploaded to that specific channel.” Copies on other channels, and look-alike channels, get through.
- It was blocked for a different child. Blocks are set per child, so check the name next to Block.
Stricter than blocking: Approve content yourself
Blocking works one channel at a time, after your child has already found it. For younger kids, YouTube Kids can work the other way around. Its content settings are Preschool, Younger, Older and Approve content yourself. With the last one, your child sees only the videos, channels and collections you pick, and search is off.
Open Settings in the YouTube Kids app
Solve the problem or enter your passcode, choose your child’s profile and enter your parent account password.
Tap Edit settings, then Approve content yourself
This setting can only be switched on in the YouTube Kids app, not from Family Center.
Pick what they can watch
Tap collections, channels or videos to approve them, then Done. You can change the list later under Manage.
If that’s too tight, the middle ground is to keep a normal content level and turn off search, which limits your child to videos and channels verified by YouTube Kids.
Unblock a channel
- One channel, from YouTube: repeat the steps above with your parent account and press Unblock next to your child.
- Everything at once, from YouTube: Settings → Family Center → your child → Unblock videos. This clears blocks in both YouTube and YouTube Kids.
- From the YouTube Kids app: Settings → your passcode → your child’s profile → parent password → Unblock videos.
For the app itself, YouTube’s help describes only the all-at-once option. To bring back a single channel, use your parent account on YouTube. If you use Family Link, you can unblock from its settings too.
When your kid also uses regular YouTube
Older kids drift to regular YouTube, often on the family computer. There, YouTube Kids blocks don’t follow them unless they’re signed in to the same supervised account. If the laptop is used signed out or with a parent’s account, the block has to live in the browser. FeedCut on a shared computer hides the channels you choose across youtube.com, including search, and keeps the list behind a PIN.
Questions
Why don’t I see “Block channel for kids”?
It only appears when you’re signed in with the parent account linked to your child’s profile or supervised account. YouTube also asks you to verify that you’re over 18 before you can sign in to YouTube Kids with your Google account.
Can my kid unblock a channel?
Unblocking happens in the app’s settings, behind a check. By default that check is a multiplication problem, which stops a five-year-old and not a ten-year-old. Set a custom passcode in the YouTube Kids settings so only you can get in.
Does a channel I block on YouTube Kids disappear from regular YouTube?
YouTube’s help confirms the other direction: if your child uses the same Google account for YouTube and YouTube Kids, a channel you block on YouTube is also blocked in YouTube Kids. So block from your parent account on YouTube when you want both covered.
Does FeedCut work inside YouTube Kids?
No. FeedCut is a browser extension for youtube.com on a computer. Inside YouTube Kids, use the app’s own Block button and content settings described above.
