Open YouTube Shorts as a normal video

Paste a Shorts link and get the regular watch link for the same video. It plays in YouTube’s usual player, with a seek bar, playback speed and the description, and there’s no next Short waiting under your thumb.

Paste one link, or several on separate lines.

The conversion happens on this page. Your links aren’t sent anywhere.

    Why this works

A Short isn’t a special kind of file. It’s an ordinary YouTube video that the site chooses to show in a vertical, swipe-to-continue player. Every video has an 11-character ID, and the Shorts address just puts that ID in a different place:

    PlayerAddress
    Shortsyoutube.com/shorts/aBcDeFgHiJk
    Normalyoutube.com/watch?v=aBcDeFgHiJk

Same video, same ID. Only the player changes.

How to do it without this page

On a computer you can make the switch in the address bar:

    1. Click the address bar

While the Short is playing, click the link at the top of the browser.

    2. Replace shorts/ with watch?v=

Delete shorts/ and type watch?v= in its place, so the ID now follows the equals sign.

    3. Press Enter

The same video reloads in the normal player. Anything after the ID, like ?si=…, can stay or go.

It takes ten seconds once. By the fifth Short a friend sends you, pasting the link above is quicker.

What you get in the normal player

    • A seek bar. Skip the intro, scrub back to a step you missed, or jump to the end without rewatching the loop.
    • Speed and quality. The gear menu works as it does on any video, including 1.5× for a long explainer cut into a Short.
    • The description and comments side by side with the video, instead of in a panel that covers it.
    • No swipe. When the video ends, it ends. There’s no next Short already loading underneath.

That last point is the real reason most people look for this. The vertical player is built to keep going; the regular one lets you stop.

    On a phone

A converted link works in any mobile browser. The YouTube app is less cooperative: it sometimes recognizes a Short and sends it back to the vertical player, even from a watch link. If that happens, long-press the link and open it in your browser instead.

Make it automatic on your computer

If you do this often, let the browser do it. With Hide Shorts turned on, FeedCut opens every /shorts/ link in the normal player, including links from chats and emails, and removes the Shorts shelves and tab from YouTube so they stop catching your eye in the first place.

    Questions

    Does this download the video?

No. It only rewrites the link, so the same video opens on YouTube in the regular player. Nothing is saved to your computer.

    Which links does it accept?

Shorts links from youtube.com and m.youtube.com, with or without the ?si= share code, plus youtu.be links and ordinary watch links, which it cleans up. A t= timestamp is kept.

Can I convert several Shorts at once?

Yes. Paste one link per line, or separate them with spaces. Each one gets its own Open and Copy buttons, and Copy all puts the whole list on your clipboard.

Why does the YouTube app still play it as a Short?

The app sometimes sends a known Short back to its vertical player, even from a watch link. Open the link in your phone’s browser instead, or watch on a computer.
