A Remove YouTube Suggestions alternative that blocks channels

Remove YouTube Suggestions, or RYS, is one of the most thorough ways to strip YouTube down: about 90 free switches, a lock and a schedule. What it doesn’t do is remove a particular creator or topic. FeedCut keeps the switches most people use and adds blocking that works across Home, search, Up next and the comments.

RYS hides parts of the page, not the channels inside them. Press Block channel on a result to see the difference.

Short version

Keep RYS if you want fine control over the interface, a schedule, or the redirect from Home to Subscriptions. Switch to FeedCut, or add it alongside, if your problem is specific channels and topics that keep appearing in search and recommendations.

What RYS does well

RYS is a long, carefully organized page of switches. According to its website, the free version covers the Home page, the video page, search, Shorts and comments, with options other extensions don’t have: hide the Home feed except its first row, redirect Home to Subscriptions, send Shorts to the normal player, hide comments except the ones with timestamps. Its lock makes you wait a few seconds or type a password before changing anything, and it can follow a schedule. Premium adds more than 80 further options for $3 a month or $24 a year.

Where it stops

All of that works on parts of the page, not on what’s in them. If one creator keeps landing in your results, or every search for a recipe brings back the same “viral” genre, there’s no switch for that. Hiding a section of the page doesn’t change what turns up inside the sections you keep.

Where each one wins

RYS

  • Far more switches, down to small interface details.
  • A schedule, and a lock with a delay.
  • Redirects from Home to Subscriptions or Watch later.

FeedCut

  • Blocks channels and words, including in search.
  • Hides comments from blocked channels under any video.
  • A short settings panel you can take in at a glance.

Using them together

The two cover different ground, so running both is reasonable. Let RYS handle the interface details you care about, let FeedCut handle channels and words, and turn off the switches they share, Shorts and the Home feed for example, in one of them. That way, when something disappears, you know which extension took it.

Questions

Can Remove YouTube Suggestions block a channel?

No. RYS hides parts of the page, in great detail, but it has no list of channels or words to block.

Does FeedCut have a schedule like RYS?

No. RYS can switch its settings on and off on a schedule; FeedCut doesn’t. FeedCut has a 10-minute pause that turns itself back on, which covers the “just this once” case.

Can I use RYS and FeedCut together?

Yes. Many of RYS’s switches have no FeedCut equivalent, and FeedCut’s blocking has no RYS equivalent. Turn off the overlapping switches in one of them, like Shorts and the Home feed, so you know which one is doing what.

Is FeedCut free?

Yes. Every feature, with no limit on channels or words, and no account.
