How to block YouTube channels in Firefox

Firefox can block trackers, not YouTube channels, and YouTube itself only lets you ask for fewer recommendations. FeedCut adds the missing button: install it from Firefox Add-ons, press Block channel on any video, and the channel is gone from Home, search, Up next and the comments.

Coming soon to Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera · Free · No account

Press Block channel on a result and switch tabs. Firefox shows exactly the same thing.

Install FeedCut in Firefox

  1. Open the Firefox Add-ons page

Click Add to Firefox, then Add in the permission prompt. FeedCut asks for storage and for access to youtube.com, nothing else.

  2. Pin it

Click the puzzle-piece Extensions button in the toolbar, open FeedCut’s gear menu and choose Pin to Toolbar.

  3. Block a channel

On youtube.com, hover any video and press Block channel. Channel pages and comments have the button too.

Private windows

Firefox asks during install whether an add-on may run in private windows. If you skipped it, open about:addons, click FeedCut and set Run in Private Windows to Allow. Otherwise a private window shows YouTube unfiltered, which is the first thing a curious kid tries.

Coming from BlockTube?

A lot of Firefox users already know BlockTube, the long-standing open-source channel blocker. If you like its rules but not its settings page, export your BlockTube list and import it into FeedCut: channels and plain words come across. Regular expressions don’t, and FeedCut tells you which ones it skipped. The BlockTube comparison covers what each one does better.

Shorts in Firefox

The same add-on handles Shorts. Hide Shorts is on from the start, so the shelf on Home, the Shorts tab and Shorts in search and Subscriptions are gone the first time you open YouTube in Firefox. A /shorts/ link opens in the normal player instead of the swipe feed. If you’d like them back, it’s one switch in the panel.

What a block covers

  • Home and Up next. The channel’s videos are removed before the page is drawn, so nothing flashes.
  • Search. Its videos, Shorts and channel card are gone from results.
  • Comments. Its comments disappear under every video.
  • Its own page. Open it directly and FeedCut shows a short “You blocked this channel” page with Back and Unblock.

Questions

Does FeedCut work in Firefox for Android?

No. FeedCut is built for desktop Firefox. On Android, Firefox does accept some extensions, and BlockTube is one that runs there.

Will my lists sync between Firefox installs?

Firefox Sync can carry your add-ons and their data to other computers signed in to the same Mozilla account, if add-ons are ticked in its settings. FeedCut has no server of its own.

Does it work in Firefox forks like LibreWolf or Zen?

Most forks install add-ons from addons.mozilla.org, so FeedCut should work the same way, though it’s built and checked for Firefox itself.

Does it work with Enhanced Tracking Protection on Strict?

Yes. FeedCut works with the data YouTube already sends to the page and makes no requests of its own, so tracking protection has nothing to block.
