How to block keywords on YouTube

YouTube has no setting that hides videos by word. With FeedCut you type a word like “prank” or the name of a show you haven’t finished, and every video whose title or channel name contains it disappears from Home, search, Up next and comments.

What YouTube offers built-in

Nothing that filters videos by word. The closest options are:

  • Not interested on a single video. It nudges recommendations, slowly, one video at a time. Search ignores it.
  • Blocked words in YouTube Studio. It sounds right, but it is a moderation tool for creators: it holds back comments on your own channel. It doesn’t change what you see anywhere else.

How to block a word with FeedCut

  1. Open the FeedCut panel

Click the FeedCut icon in your browser’s toolbar while YouTube is open.

  2. Type a word and press Add

One word or a short phrase: “prank”, “drama”, “ending explained”. Add as many as you like.

  3. Matching videos disappear

From Home, search, Up next, Shorts and comments, right away. Remove the word and they come back.

How matching works

  • Title and channel name. A video is hidden if either one contains your word. Comments are checked by their text.
  • Any case. “Prank” and “prank” are the same.
  • Parts of words count. “prank” also catches “pranks” and “pranked”. For short words that would catch too much, like “ai”, turn on Whole word for that word.
  • What you see, nothing more. FeedCut doesn’t read descriptions, captions or the video itself.

Words that work well

If you want to avoidTry words like
SpoilersThe show’s name, “finale”, “ending explained”, “season 3”
Drama and gossip“drama”, “exposed”, “beef”, “tea”
Pranks and stunts“prank”, “challenge”, “24 hours”
Reaction videos“reacts”, “reaction”, “reacting”
A topic that ruins your moodA few names and terms from it, or a ready-made list

Start with two or three words and add more when something slips through. A short list of precise words beats a long list of vague ones.

Limits

  • No word limit, on Free too.
  • Creators change titles. FeedCut checks the title YouTube shows you right now, so a renamed video is judged by its new name.
  • Desktop browsers only. The YouTube apps for phones and TVs aren’t affected.

Questions

Can you block keywords on YouTube?

Not as a viewer. YouTube’s “Blocked words” setting is for channel owners and only moderates comments on their own channel. To hide videos by word, you need an extension like FeedCut.

Does it hide words in comments too?

Yes. A comment that contains one of your words is hidden under every video, along with matching videos. More in filtering comments by keyword.

Will it hide a video if the word is only in the description?

No. FeedCut checks what you see in lists: the video title and the channel name. It doesn’t read descriptions or what is said in the video.

Can I block a whole topic, like politics?

Add a few words that name it, or switch on the ready-made “No politics” list, which blocks common words and channels for you. You can edit the list afterwards.

Is it case-sensitive?

No. “Prank”, “PRANK” and “prank” are the same word for FeedCut.
